After the Rain, a mid June Garden Update

There are 2 things that are growing like mad right now in our garden at Eco-Gites of Lenault: grass and weeds!  The grass means there is plenty of food for the animals but it also means I am doing a lot of mowing.  And when I am not mowing I am weeding!  However it is not all a disaster and the fact grass is growing well can be to my garden advantage.  As soon as I have weeded areas I can add a mulch of grass cuttings to slow down, if not actually stop, any weeds coming back.  I do like a good cheat.

This week I have also managed to get the bean wigwams up and sown with 7 varieties of beans of various colours including some especially for growing on as podded beans.  You can see them to the left of the polytunnel - and you can see how long the grass is!

Areas of mulched vegetables are not particularly pretty for photos so here are some of the flowers you can currently see around Eco-Gites of Lenault.  The photos were all taken after a very heavy rain shower!

A Japanese Rose near the gite.  I wish you could smell its scent as it is heavenly.

An English Marigold (Calendula) - this one survived over winter and has been flowering for ages now.

A weed is only a plant in the wrong place - so this is not a weed so long as it stays in the hedge and does not migrate to my veg patch!

How is your garden growing?  Are the weeds under control or are you fighting a losing battle?
